We thought we were long overdue a blog post, so here we are! We’re excited to be out and about in all of this lovely sunshine, making lots of jelly and baking with all our (not so new anymore!) baking mixes!
However with summer upon us, and BBQs popping up all over the place, we couldn’t possibly forget about one of our old classics, our protein packed burger mix!
We’ve collaborated with the lovely team at Mr Organic and Doves Farm to bring you a delicious PLANT-BASED brioche bun recipe, to squeeze around our tasty burgers!
Mr Organic truly believe that real food should not only fill an empty stomach, but also be nutritious to the body. That is why they source nothing but sustainable, wholesome goodness, completely vegan and made from the purest of ingredients. They produce cupboard staples like Passata, Pasta and Olive Oil, through to delicious Ketchups, spreads and lovingly baked flatbreads from Liguria!
As farmers and millers since 1978, Doves Farm care about how their grains are grown. They believe in growing grains slowly and tenderly and how they make their flour really matters to them – the ingredients, the flavour, the provenance and the effect on our planet. But for them it’s also essential to choose the right grain for the job. So, whether you’re making bread, cakes or scones, they’ve considered everything from the grain they select to the way it's milled, all to give you the best results in your baking.
We’re offering 20% off on our burger mix until Sunday evening, so grab it whilst you can!
Mr Organic are also running ketchup promotions at Ocado (25% off) and Waitrose (20% off), so check them out when you’re doing your next shop :)
Ingredients
250g Doves Farm Flour
½ tsp Salt
1 tbsp Sugar
4g Dry Active Yeast
100ml Lukewarm Water
40ml Lukewarm Plantmilk (e.g.oat)
2 tbsp Rapeseed Oil
2 tbsp Tamari
Seeds for the topping (optional)
Directions
In a medium-size mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and sugar.
In a jug, stir together the lukewarm water, lukewarm milk and yeast and set the mix aside for 10-15 minutes. The mix should start to foam on top, which is a sign of active yeast.
Pour the wet into the dry mix and combine everything with a wooden spoon. Add in the rapeseed oil and knead the dough until smooth and elastic on a lightly floured surface.
Place it back into the bowl, cover with a damp towel and leave to rise in a warm place for 2 hrs.
Once the time elapses, push back the dough, give it another knead, then divide it into 2 or 3 and shape your burger buns.
Place them onto a lined baking tray, cover them again with a damp towel and allow them to rise for another 45 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 180C (gas mark 4).
Place your burger buns into the preheated oven and allow for them to bake for 10 minutes, then remove them from the oven and brush them with tamari. Sprinkle over any seeds of your choice and return them from the oven for another 4-5 minutes or until golden.
Allow for the buns to cool for 15 minutes before slicing and toasting them, and top with our burgers, Mr Organic Tomato Ketchup & Co!
